General first aid

Who is it for?

Suitable for people 18 years and over, this course is for members of the public who would like to learn a range of basic first aid skills with some clinical background. This course does not qualify you as a first aider in the workplace under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

  • Helping an unconscious person - breathing and not breathing

  • Severe blood loss and shock
  • Minor bleeding
  • Burns & scalds
  • Sprains & strains
  • Fractures
  • Head injury
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Asthma
  • Poisoning

Qualification

This course is continually assessed and a certificate of competency is issued. We recommend that participants refresh their skills every 3 years.

Pre-requisites

No previous knowledge of first aid needed. Participants are encouraged to discuss any particular learning needs beforehand.

Notes

This all day course primarily covers adult first aid but can be varied to cover child and/or infant first aid or be adapted to specifically cover sports and leisure injuries. Check with the venue for more information.
